He served as a Corporal in Company G, 328th Infantry in World War I. He enlisted in the Army on October 4, 1917, trained in camps in the United States including Camp Gordon, Georgia. He served for twelve months overseas and was honorable discharged at Camp Dix, New Jersey, on May 29, 1919.
