He was born near Washington, Pennsylvania, and came to Beaver County about 1840, where he engaged in farming in Hanover township.

He was an active man in the community during his life, and held the position of road commissioner. He had a farm of about forty acres near Kendall, Beaver county, and there lived and died.

He had four children with his first wife.
