He was educated at the Michigan Law University at Ann Arbor. He studied theology there, and began preaching at Deerfield, Portage County, Ohio, and subsequently was in charge of a congregation at Windham, the same county. He was then sent to China as a missionary for eight years. He finally came home on account of declining health, and in about two years he began his ministerial labors at Kinsman, Ohio, where he continued for three years, and then located at Niles, where he was in charge of a church.
He was a minister of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
