General Notes: Husband - A. Oberholt Jones
He received a good education in the public schools of the county, and at the age of sixteen years entered upon his business career. He commenced working in the mines, at the bottom of the ladder, obtaining employment with Cochran Brothers, at Dawson Station, remained with them but a short time, then entered the employ of Wilson Boyd & Playbard at the Valley works. He left this firm and August 23, 1877, found employment with Coulter & Huff, (later the Keystone Coal and Coke Company) of Greensburg, Pennsylvania, as driver in the mines. He was soon promoted to the position of engineer, and soon after he was given a clerkship in the office of the company. In this position he was under the supervision of his brother, T. L. Jones, and in 1903 he was appointed to another position, superintendent of the Hempfield mines.
Mr. Jones never sought to hold public office; he was, however, a strong Democrat. He and his family were members of the Methodist Episcopal church, and he was also a member of the I. O. of H., and of the B. P. O. E.
