He was descended from Jacob Bottimore, a revolutionary soldier.

He was born and reared in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and was a farmer by occupation. He owned a large tract of valuable, well cultivated land near Collinsville [Connellsville?]. In religious faith he was a member of the Baptist church.

He was born in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, and died at his farm in Fayette County.
