General Notes: Husband - Samuel Cathcart

He was reared on his father's farm, received a good business education, and engaged in agricultural pursuits in Mahoning township after leaving school. He owned one hundred acres of good farming and grazing land, upon which he resided.
In politics he was a stanch republican, and filled the office of constable of Mahoning township for six years, and filled other offices of profit and trust.

He was born in what is now Mahoning township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and there grew to manhood. In 1844 he purchased 100 acres of land, later owned by his son Samuel B., cleared most of it and made extensive improvements, and died there at the age of eighty-six years.
