He was born in County Tyrone, Ireland, was married there, and emigrated to America in 1798. He first settled on Mingo Creek, Nottingham township, Washington County, Pennsylvania. July 25, 1807, he purchased from Nicholas Vaneman, a farm of one hundred and six acres, situated on East Chartiers Creek, on the southern limit of North Strabane township. It was mostly woods. Here he settled and died. Both he and his wife were members of the Pigeon Creek Church.
