General Notes: Husband - James R. Burnside

He was born on a farm in Chartiers township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, was reared there and early turned his attention to the study of law, in due time being admitted to the bar. For awhile after his marriage he made his home in New Wilmington, Lawrence County, and then engaged in practice in Washington, Pennsylvania, where the rest of his life was spent.
In the days of his young manhood Mr. Burnside took an active interest in the affairs of the Pennsylvania National Guard and during the time of the mill riots at Homestead in 1892 was an officer of the guard and rendered service in helping quell the disturbance. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church, and for years he was looked upon as one of the local leaders in the republican party.
