He was born in Marion township, Butler county, PA, was reared on the old homestead, and was educated in the common schools and at Grove City College. He always followed agricultural pursuits, and resided on the farm where he was born. Politically, he was a Republican, an advocate of prohibition, and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
