He was born in Marion township, Butler county, PA, was reared on the old home­stead, and was educated in the common schools and at Grove City College. He always fol­lowed agricultural pursuits, and resided on the farm where he was born. Politically, he was a Republican, an advocate of prohibition, and was a member of the Presbyterian church.
