He came to Franklin County, Pennsylvania, with his parents when quite young. He became a farmer and lived four miles northwest of Greencastle, on Conococheague Creek, but in 1833 or 1834 moved to Greencastle, where he later died.
He was for many years a member of the Reformed Church, and served as a captain of a militia company for seven years, having served about the same time as a lieutenant; he was also a justice of the peace several years.
