General Notes: Husband - Col. James Carothers
He was reared and educated in Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and at the age of twenty-two years he came to Hanover township, Beaver County, taking up 212 acres of government land in 1787. He was a civil engineer, held the position of county surveyor, and was known far and wide as Colonel Carothers. He went there a single man, and in 1789 returned to Carlisle and married.
