Another source gives his birth date as March 8. [DKM, 28] Another source states he was born in April.

He came to Rockland township, Venango County, PA, with his parents as a small boy and lived there until about 1835 when his father moved to a farm in Sandycreek township, Venango County. In 1848, he bought a parcel of ninety-one acres of land in Rockland township which was located on the East Sandy Road. He moved his family there shortly after 1850 from his father's farm in Sandycreek township.
