He was reared on the home farm and continued farming and stock raising until the growth of the city of Washington, Pennsylvania, encroached on his land, when he found it more valuable to make it into a subdivision and sell for business purposes.
He and his wife were members of the First Methodist Episcopal Church at Washington and he belonged to the official board. He was identified with the Republican party and formerly took an active part in township affairs, at times serving in local offices.
