General Notes: Husband - Joseph Alexander Herron
He received his education at the public schools of Cincinnati, Ohio, and at West Chester, Pennsylvania, Military Academy. Returning to Monongahela City, Pennsylvania, he entered the banking house of Alexander & Co., conducted by his uncles, William J. and James S. Alexander; in 1871 he became a partner. He was prominently identified in municipal, educational, church and social interests in the place of his nativity; was a trustee in the Monongahela City Manufactured & Natural Gas Company; the Washington & Williamsport Turnpike Co.; the Williamsport Bridge Co., and the Monongahela Cemetery. He was a member of the school board, and a trustee of the First Presbyterian Church, of which he and wife were members.
He spent part of his boyhood days in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he attended the common schools, and after the death of his father, he and his mother returned to Monongahela City, Pennsylvania, and his education was completed at the Westchester Military Academy at Westchester. In 1866 he entered the bank of Alexander & Company as clerk, became a member of that firm in 1870, and after the death of his uncle, James Alexander, became senior member of the firm, of which he was later the head and active manager. A new building, which was erected in 1906, stood as a monument to the energy of the firm. He was president of the Monongahela Trust Company; president of the Farmers' and Miners' Bank of Bentleyville; was a director of the Farmers' Deposit National Bank; the Farmers' Deposit Savings Bank of Pittsburg; was a director of the Reliance Life Insurance Company, and was also identified with various other business concerns of the county. Mr. Herron owned a valuable farm of 190 acres on Ginger Hill, and also his residence property which was located on Meade street. Politically he was identified with the Republican party, and was president and one of the board of managers of the Monongahela Cemetery. He held membership with the Presbyterian Church for many years, and was also a deacon. He was fraternally affiliated with the Masons, the B. P. O. E., and the Jr. O. U. A. M.
