He became a physician and surgeon. He served three years as surgeon in the Civil war, and then located in the village of Jacksonville, Indiana County, Pennsylvania, near his old birthplace. In 1875 he moved to the city of Allegheny, where he continued to reside until his death. He built up a fine practice there.
