After completing his studies he directed his attention to lumbering, and was a member of the lumber firm of Abbott Brothers, also a member of the firm of Abbott Brothers Company, merchants, of Sugar Grove, Pennsylvania. He was a member and officer in the Methodist Episcopal church, and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in the work of which he took an active interest.
