General Notes: Husband - Timothy Buell

The founder of the Buell family in America was one William Buell, who came from England, where he was born, and settled in Connecticut as early as 1730. In the succeeding years the family spread to many parts of the country, and came to be represented in a great number of states and in Canada.

The Buells of Canada are descended from Timothy Buell, who removed to that country in 1781. His eldest son, William Buell, preceded him there, having migrated as early as 1775, when he was twenty-three years of age. It is stated that his younger brother, Timothy Buell, Jr., accompanied him there, though he was but fifteen years of age. However this may be, he must have returned about 1779 for in that year it was that he migrated to western Pennsylvania and settled in what was then the little village of Greensburg, Westmoreland County. There is, however, evidence of a different nature which would lead to the conclusion that Timothy, Jr., accompanied his father to Canada in 1781 and did not return until the death of the latter in 1789. The whole matter is somewhat in doubt.
