General Notes: Husband - William Nixon Brownfield


He received his education in the public schools of Fayette County, Pennsylvania. After leaving school he engaged in farming which he pursued successfully until duty called him to his country's service, to which call he responded, and in August, 1862, enlisted in Company F, 14th Pennsylvania Cavalry. He enlisted for three years but served until General Lee surrendered at Appomattox court-house. He was in the Virginia campaign and received a bullet wound in the knee in an engagement at White Sulphur Springs, Virginia. He was in many sharp engagements, and suffered many hardships.
