He attended the public schools of the township and spent his youthful life on the farm, later taking up its management and finally becoming its owner. In addition to farming he raised a great deal of stock, from which he realized a comfortable income. His political creed was Republican, and as a member of this party he served the county as justice of the peace for some years. With his wife he was a member of the Mill Creek Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the board of trustees.
