General Notes: Husband - David Caldwell

He was born at Warrior's Mark, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania.
He learned the tanning trade with John Scott, of Alexandria, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, after which he went to Williamsburg, and there married, and some time afterwards removed to Frankatown, where he resided and carried on the tanning business until 1839, when he purchased an establishment from David Barrick, in Gaysport, Blair County, and removed there. All his life he was prominently identified with public affairs, and served in many public positions, among which may be mentioned those of county commissioner and associate judge.
He had a large family of children, but only two were still living in 1883.

He, in his day, was one of the most prominent figures of Blair County, Pennsylvania, for many years an associate judge and an important factor in the Republican party; in his early days he was a Whig. He engaged extensively in various lines of manufacturing and was the owner of iron mines in addition. [HWC 1906 II, 439]
