General Notes: Husband - Thomas Byers

He and his brother, Thomas, of Irish nationality, came to West Finley township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and March 16, 1786, were granted a warrant for "stone-coal," a four-hundred-acre tract of land adjoining the property of David Bradford, James Leeper, James Shaw, and Samuel Byers. [HWC 1882, 980]

He was born in Ireland, and came to America in early life. [The same source gives differing stories of his birthplace.] He was married and settled on a farm in Finley township. He, with his wife, was most courageous in battling with danger in their home in East Finley, because of the attacks of Indians.
In 1813 he was installed as an elder in the Presbyterian Church of West Alexander, which office he filled with great acceptance, being called the peacemaker of the Session.
