Upon the completion of his studies, he at once entered into an active career and served in the capacity of manager of the general store of Abbott Brothers Company. He was genial and sociable, and was highly regarded by all with whom he came into contact. He was a member of the borough council, the Presbyterian church, and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in all of which he took an active interest.
