He was born at Middlesex, Butler County, Pennsylvania. In April, 1849, he moved to a farm in Hampton township, Allegheny County, where he then lived. He held the offices of justice of the peace, auditor and assessor of the township, and was a member of the U. P. Church of Talley Cavey.
