General Notes: Husband - Joe W. Butz


He learned the cabinet maker's trade in Washington, Pennsylvania, and followed it for some time. He went west five times, visiting twelve states. Later he began work as a wagon maker, and although he never learned that trade, he was very successful.
In July, 1863, Mr. Butz enlisted in Company E, 61st P. V., Capt. William Glenn, and participated in the battles of the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, Cold Harbor, and in the battles in front of Petersburg. Politically he was a Republican.
