General Notes: Husband - Henry W. Oliver, Sr.

He was a merchant in Donaghmore, County Tyrone, Ireland, and was active and influential in local politics. In the election of 1841 he warmly espoused the cause of the Liberals, thereby gaining the ill will of the successful candidate, who was the Lord of the Manor. The victorious earl, with his friends, boycotted the supporters of the defeated candidate, ruining their business whenever possible. On this account Mr. Oliver decided to emigrate to the United States, and in the autumn of 1842 settled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Being a good mechanic, he soon established a profitable business, which he conducted for over forty years, winning recognition as a substantial merchant and manufacturer.

He and his wife were of genuine Scotch ancestry, but natives of Ireland, from which country they emigrated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1842. Their home before coming to America was Dungannon, county of Tyrone, Ireland. Upon coming to the new world he engaged in the harness and saddlery business, which trade he had followed before coming there. He continued and prospered in this work until 1866, when he was able to retire with a competency. He was a member of the Christian church and reared his family in that communion.

General Notes: Wife - Margaret Brown

She was of Irish birth and Scotch ancestry.
