He received a common school education and learned the mason and plastering trade, which he followed about twelve years, when he engaged in the foundry business in Perry County, Pennsylvania, and also in the city of Lancaster, and afterwards carried on the same business in Union County.
About the year 1853 he came to Venango County and settled in the town of Emlenton, (which then only contained fifteen houses), where he started a foundry. He carried on the busi-ness successfully until 1866, when he sold his establishment and machinery to other parties. The oil excitement was then at its height, and in connection with some other gentlemen, he started a refinery across the river from the town, but soon after sold out. After this, he erected a steam saw mill down at Poplar Bottom, in Clarion county, which he operated about four years. He re-tired from business about 1876. [HVC 1879, 549]

He resided in Lebanon, Lebanon county, Pennsylvania, until he reached his nineteenth year, when he removed to Williamsville, near Buffalo, New York. Prior to his removal from Lebanon and, subsequently at Williamsville, he obtained a common school education, and likewise learned the plasterer's trade which he subse-quently followed. A few months subsequent to his marriage Mr. Widle removed to Perry County, Pennsylvania, where he resided about eight years. He then lived successively in Lancaster, Juniata, Union, and Venango, counties; in the last named he dwelt for a time at Mariasville, and finally established himself in Emlenton, in 1854, where he resided to his death. It ought to be said that Mr. Widle, about 1841, learned the foundry business and pros-ecuted it until the oil excitement began, after which he was an oil producer and speculator. He was first an old line Whig, with strong anti-slavery sentiments, and subsequently entered the Republican party. During the last thirty years of his life he was a member of the Presbyterian church. Mr. Widle was a liberal, public-spirited, and useful citizen of the community. [HVC 1890, 935]

Record of Emlenton Cemetery Interments states he died in 1883.
