General Notes: Husband - Lewis Evans
He, his wife, and children, came from Caernarvonshire, Wales, and settled in Vincent township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, near what was known as the "Tilt-Mills." Here he worked at his trade of a shoemaker until his death, in the forty-sixth year of his age.
After the death of the father the family removed to Uwchlan and settled on 62½ acres of land, whereon they built a house in 1766, which was enlarged in 1801, and was still standing eighty years later. The farm was also increased until it contained 350 acres, of which 333 acres came to be owned by Newton Evans. The house is said to have been for a time the headquarters of Gen. Wayne, while his forces were encamped on the farm.
