General Notes: Husband - Peter Schoch

He was born in Union County, Pennsylvania, in 1802, and came to Venango County about 1828, and settled on the farm where he remained till his death, and where his son, Jacob, later resided. He first purchased sixty acres of land, for which he was to pay $1.50 per acre, but before he accumulated enough to liquidate the debt, the interest and principal amounted to three dollars per acre. He was a carpenter by trade, at which he worked for a long time, receiving one dollar per day. They often lived for weeks at a time on potatoes alone, not being able to pay the extraordinary price that was asked for flour. He lived to the good old age of three score and ten. Raised a family of six children, four of whom were still living in 1879.
