General Notes: Husband - James C. Russell

Smith Twp, Washington Co, PA - a farmer

He obtained his education in the common schools of Smith Township and afterward assisted his father on the home farm until he was 25 years of age. In 1874 he settled on his own farm, where he did a large amount of improving, including the erection of all new buildings. In 1888 he started into the dairy business, prior to that having been a large sheep grower. He operated his dairy with thoroughbred Jersey cows, securing 50 gallons of milk daily, all of which he shipped to the same Pittsburgh firm for many years. There was one gas well on the farm.
He and his family were members of the Raccoon Presbyterian Church, of which he was treasurer. In politics he was a Democrat. He paid a great deal of attention to the public schools and served six years as a school director.
