General Notes: Husband - William DeJeanne
He entered Oxford, but in 1639 was expelled under the decree of uniformity, which required all students of the university to subscribe to all the articles of the Westminster creed. He dissented from several of them and after his expulsion became chaplain in Cromwell's army. After the restoration of Charles II. William DeJeanne sought safety in flight, changing his name to Jayne and securing passage on a vessel bound for America. He landed at New Haven, Connecticut, remaining there until after his marriage. He then joined a party of ten others, crossed the sound to Long Island, where they purchased from the Nassau Indians the tract of land on which the town of Brookhaven, Suffolk county, now stands. He was one of the original trustees of the village, serving until 1709, when he was succeeded by his eldest son, William.
He reared a family of six sons and three daughters.
