He was educated in the public schools of Washington, D. C.; Punxsutawney high school; Sugargrove United Brethren Seminary, graduating therefrom in 1907; Wooster (Ohio) University; and the State Normal School at Edinboro, from which he was graduated in 1911, after which he taught school, and later became principal of the high school at Prosperity, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
