General Notes: Husband - Alexander Elliott Johnston
He attended public school, later going to the normal school at Indiana. Having decided upon being a farmer early in life, he devoted himself to agricultural pursuits with gratifying results. He became the owner of a fine property of 137 acres of fertile land, on which he made many modern improvements. His farm was fully supplied with the best machinery, and he carried on his work according to the most scientific methods. Experience taught him that general farming and stock raising paid him best. A Democrat of the old school, Mr. Johnston was a member of the school board for many years, and acted as its secretary, and he was often called upon to act as judge of election. The Presbyterian Church held his membership, he and his family being connected with that denomination at Armagh, Indiana County, Pennsylvania.
