General Notes: Husband - William R. Ross

He received his education in the district school of Deer Creek Township, Mercer County, PA, farming on the home place until he was seventeen years of age, when he went to Meadville to learn the harness trade. Later, he established himself as a merchant at Sheakleyville, and after remaining there thus engaged for about three years, transferred his business to Jamestown and finally to Oil City. He was very successful in all his mercantile ventures; was honored by his fellows with all the township offices; was a stanch and active member of the Presbyterian Church, and at his sudden death was considered not only a leading citizen of Mercer County but a true Christian gentleman. To his other virtues must also be added bravery, for (as a member of Company L, Eighty-third Pennsylvania Infantry) he served with stanch faithfulness throughout the entire period of the Civil war. [HMC 1909, 995]

General Notes: Wife - Margaret A. Brush

She was born on the Brush homestead in Sandy Creek Township, Mercer County, PA; attended school until she was eighteen years of age; taught for three terms, and then remained at home until her marriage. [HMC 1909, 995]
