He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from working as a machinist for CPT in 1980. He was a member of the CPT Quarter Century Club, was a member of the Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department where he served as First and Second Lieutenant and was Fire Chief for two years. He also belonged to the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Franklin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
