President Honors Fireman's Memory: A citation signed by President Jimmy Carter has been received by the family of the late Robert J. Brudage, assistant fire chief in Franklin, who collapsed and died Sept. 16, while helping co-workers fight a house fire.
The citation was presented to Brundage's widow, Dorothy Brundage, of 1005 Chestnut St. and the couple's six children. It says in part:
"The United States of America honors the memory of Robert J. Brundage. This certificate is awarded by a grateful nation in recognition of devoted and selfless consecration to the service of our country in the armed forces of the United States."
First associated with city fire department in September, 1961, Brundage had been promoted to assistant chief in 1969. Born and reared in Franklin he was a veteran of World War II, serving aboard the USS John Pope during service with the U. S. Navy.
Like several colleagues in the department, Brundage also devoted many spare time hours to the activities of volunteer fire departments, holding membership in Rocky Grove, Reno and Sandycreek VFDs.
