He came to Union City, Erie County, Pennsylvania, in 1870, engaging as a salesman until the spring of 1882, when he opened his own place of business in the Gillett Block, selling dry goods, boots, shoes and carpets. He was connected with the M. E. Church, and was a member of the I. O. O. F., K. of H. and Royal Templars.

He was a native of Mercer County, Pennsylvania. [HNWP, 500]
