General Notes: Husband - William P. Brown
He was born on his father's farm in Mercer Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania, and at an early age learned the cabinetmaker's trade at Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. In about 1837 he came to Harrisville and engaged in conducting a cabinet and undertaking establishment, in which he was very successful. In politics, he was first a Whig and afterwards a Republican, as well as an ardent supporter of the temperance cause. He was opposed to slavery and helped many a negro in making his way through the states to Canada.
