He graduated at Westminster College, at New Wilmington, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania, in June, 1875, standing second in a good class. He was licensed to preach the Gospel August 8, 1876, by the United Presbyterian Presbytery of Cleveland, and ordained and installed pastor of the United Presbyterian congregation at New Bedford, Lawrence County, where he remained until the early part of 1888, when he accepted the pastorate of the U. P. congregation at Greensburg, Pennsylvania.
