General Notes: Husband - Capt. John H. Boyts
He received a common-school education, and was employed as clerk at the beginning of the Civil war. He recruited a company of which he was elected captain, the company being enrolled as Company C, One Hundred and Forty-second Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteers. At the first battle of Fredericksburg he was so badly wounded as to necessitate his discharge. In 1867 he went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and engaged in the china and glass business, and in 1873-74 built the Crescent and Clearfield railroad. The coal land brokerage business occupied him until a few years before his death.
Civil War: he entered the service on Aug 27, 1862, Co. C, 142nd Regiment, PVI. Was discharged on a surgeon's certificate on Feb 22, 1863.
