He attended Grove City College, Grove City, Pennsylvania, from which he was graduated in 1885, and he was graduated from the Western Theological Seminary in 1888. He was then called to the pastorate of the First Presbyterian Church of Edinboro, Pennsylvania, and remained there from June, 1888, to October, 1892. He was called in 1892 to Mercersburg to fill the pulpit of the Presbyterian Church. He was a scholarly man, whose discourses were not only profound, but also clear and concise, and within the understanding of even the youngest, for they breathed of true Christianity as well as of doctrinal points.
