General Notes: Husband - David Brown

He took the oath of allegiance before Humphrey Fullerton, a justice of Franklin County, Pennsylvania, the original certificate of which was still in the possession of the family over one hundred years later. He purchased, in 1802, a farm at the mouth of the White Thorn run, near New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, later (1909) owned by John Oliver Brown.

He was one of the early settlers of Salem township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, coming with his family from Green Castle, Pennsylvania, in 1800.

In 1802 removed to near New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, where he purchased a farm, upon which he died.

He came from Ireland to America during the Revolution. He was a stone mason, as well as farmer, and aided in erecting the first stone house in Harrisburg, and in constructing, in 1785, the stone arch bridge over the Conococheugue near Greencastle, where he lived. He worked at his trade for several years in the Cumberland valley. He settled on the Brown homestead, a farm at the mouth of the White Thorn run, near New Alexandria, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, in 1802, having purchased it in 1799 from his brother Samuel. He repurchased it in 1803 from General Alex. Craig, who held the legal title. The land was surveyed in pursuance of a warrant dated July 29, 1784.

General Notes: Wife - Margaret Oliver

She had been, like her husband, a resident of near Londonderry, Ireland, and was connected with other members of the same family in York County and western Pennsylvania.
