He was educated in Allegheny College, from which institution he graduated in 1892, with the degree of A. B. and the year following the degree of A. M. was conferred upon him, pro merito, with that of Ph. D. in 1895. He attended Harvard Law School a year, read law with Gillespie & Pettit, of Greenville two years and was admitted to the bar in 1896. He practiced at Greenville until 1902, after which he was at Mercer.
Politically, Mr. Johnson was independent.
