General Notes: Husband - John Hamilton
He was the second sheriff of Venango County, Pennsylvania, and a judge in Warren County for many years.
He was sheriff of Venango County, Pennsylvania, before the division was effected that set off Warren County, and frequently came through this part of his district on a bridle-path. The intimate knowledge of the resources of the country which thus came to him in the performance of his official duties attracted his attention to Sugar Grove, and in 1827 he removed thither.
He and his wife had seven children.
He was born in York County, Pennsylvania, and moved with his father to Venango County, in 1800. Upon reaching maturity he kept a hotel in Franklin for a number of years, and was elected sheriff of Venango County. He moved to Sugar Grove township, Warren County, in 1827, and served five years as associate judge of the county.
General Notes: Wife - Catharine Brown
She was born in Belfast, Ireland, and in 1804 came to the United States, locating in Sugar Grove township, Warren County, Pennsylvania.
Notes: Marriage
They were married in what was said to have been the first frame house erected in Warren County, Pennsylvania. It was built and occupied by her brother, David Brown (father of Judge W. D. Brown of Warren), and stood on the site later occupied by the beautiful residence of James C. Hamilton, just above the old "Brown Spring," well known to the pioneer residents of Warren County.
