General Notes: Husband - Jacob Newton Brewer

He was educated in the schools of the neighborhood, remaining until he attained the age of twenty years. In April, 1846, he went into business for himself, after a year's experience in clerking, commencing without capital, but by dint of earnest application and careful observation he gradually increased his business, paying back all that he had borrowed, until he became known as one of the foremost merchants of his locality
He retired about 1885, after forty years work.
He never sought political preferment, but was a Democrat in his views. He was one of the directors of the bank, and secretary of the board. He was treasurer of the Fairview Cemetery, and held the position from the beginning of the company in 1867. For several years he held the position of Burgess and took a great interest in educational matters. Religiously he was a member of the German Reform Church.
