General Notes: Husband - James J. Bovard

He was about seven years old when his parents located in Slippery Rock Township, Butler County, Pennsylvania. He was reared in that township, and educated in the public schools. In 1851 he purchased the Cross homestead, where he thereafter lived with his sister, Sarah E. He was originally a member of Harmony United Presbyterian church, later became connected with Bethel United Presbyterian church, and held the office of trustee in that society for six years. Politically, he was a stanch Democrat, was one of the progressive citizens of the community, and a substantial, enterprising farmer, owning one of the best improved homesteads in the township.
