General Notes: Husband - Charles S. Bovard
He was reared in Manor township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, and after attending the public schools spent two years at Elderton academy and the same length of time at Westminster college. Beginning in 1870 he was engaged in the general mercantile business at Manorville. He and his brother owned one hundred and sixty acres of land in the oil region of Venango County, and their tract was developed with very favorable results.
He was a stanch republican, and for six years was a member of the school board of Manorville, besides filling the office of auditor and serving as councilman. In 1878 he removed from Manorville to a residence in the township, and was a school director of Manor township for nine years. He was for several years an elder in the United Presbyterian church, and was a commissioner to the General Assembly of that church at its session of 1882, in Monmouth, Illinois. He remained in the United Presbyterian church until the organization of the Second Presbyterian church at Kittanning, in 1884, when he united with that church, of which he became an elder.
