General Notes: Husband - Col. George Craighead

The Craigheads are descended from a Scotch missionary of that name who settled in Virginia in her colonial days.

He was a soldier in the Revolutionary war, and was wounded at the battle of Brandywine.
He was a native of Virginia; married and came to Washington County, Pennsylvania, about 1794, and settled in North Strabane township.

He lived in his early days near Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, and was a colonel in the Revolutionary army. He emigrated to North Strabane township, Washington County, in 1795, and purchased ninety acres of land on the 15th of September in that year of Levi Hollinsworth. It was part of a large tract (the Pentecost lands) sold by David Williamson, sheriff of the county, in 1789.
He was justice of the peace from Jan. 19, 1799, till his death in 1811.

He may have been married more than once. If this is true, it is unknown if Bratton is his first or second wife. Thomas and William were sons of his first wife.
