General Notes: Husband - Philip Kreider
He was fairly well-educated for his day and opportunities, and was reared as a farm boy by an uncle, John Boumberger, he being a mere lad when his father died. As he grew to maturity he proved a good business man, and for several years he carried on a store, and also kept a hotel in Lebanon, PA. In addition to this he learned the carpenter's trade, and worked at that trade for a time. In 1835 he located at Centre Hall, and four years later moved to Penn township, where he died. In religious faith he was a member of the Reformed Church, and in politics he was a Democrat.
He married, and in April, 1834, removed with his family to the present site of Centre Hall, PA, traveling in a wagon, the journey from Lebanon county requiring three days. He and Christian Hoffer, who with his family made the trip at the same time, purchased what was then known as the James Lyons farm, and divided it, Mr. Kreider taking the lower portion where Centre Hall now stands. Four years later he moved to Linden Hall, and after one year there located in what is now Penn township, Centre County. He was a carpenter in his younger days, later becoming a merchant and hotel keeper, his thrifty and industrious life enabling him to secure a comfortable competence.
