Pine Twp, Mercer Co, PA
He was born in Mercer County, Pennsylvania, on the family property. He became a teacher when only twenty years of age, and then took up farming. He was a man of great scholarly attainments. Among his warm personal friends he numbered John Trunkey, a member of the supreme court. He served in the war of the Rebellion, and with him in that war were fourteen nephews. [BAFC, 501]
