He and his wife came to Crawford County, Pennsylvania, in 1835, with nine children, settling on 160 acres of woodland in Spring township. Of this they cleared, in the first year, thirty acres, and, the following year raised 600 bushels of wheat on the thirty acres.
He had four children with his second wife.
